Fuel industry advice from a practitioner, not a theorist.

I have set pump prices across one of Australia's largest fuel networks, owned the P&L, and briefed boards, investors and the ACCC. From the supply desk at BP to leading pricing at Viva Energy and fuel markets at EG, I have done the job at every link in the chain. Now I advise the companies, investors and organisations shaping the sector.

I work across the whole downstream chain, from the global barrel to the customer on the forecourt.

  1. Global markets

Crude, refining margins and the forces behind wholesale prices.

  2. Supply and wholesale

Import, terminal and freight economics that set landed cost.

  3. Networks and infrastructure

Terminals, depots and sites: where to invest and how to run them well.

  4. Pricing and margin

Strategy that balances volume, margin and brand position.

  5. Customer and loyalty

Offers, programs and data that bring motorists back.

Commercial advice across the downstream fuel industry.

Engagements range from a one hour expert call to a multi-month strategy review. The common thread is practical advice you can act on, from someone who has made these decisions and lived with the results.

Retail and loyalty

Retail offer, brand and loyalty programs for fuel and convenience, and measuring whether they actually change customer behaviour.

Commercial strategy

Market entry, competitive positioning, business models and the commercial choices that separate leaders from followers.

Pricing strategy

Wholesale, commercial and retail pricing frameworks, competitive response and margin management across the value chain.

Supply and network strategy

Supply chain economics, import and terminal positions, site portfolios, and acquisition or divestment screening.

Industry insight and trends

Market intelligence on global and local fuel markets, listed company results, competitors and the shifts reshaping the industry.

Expert calls, briefings and speaking

Focused sessions for investors and expert networks, board briefings, and keynotes or panels at industry events.

How I work.

Four ways to work together, from a single call to a seat at the table. Each starts with a short conversation about the question you need answered.

  1. Hours

    Expert calls and briefings

Calls for investors and expert networks, and briefings for boards and leadership teams on market conditions, competitors or a specific decision.

  2. Weeks to months

    Project advisory

A defined piece of work with a clear question and a clear answer: a pricing review, network strategy, loyalty assessment or market entry case.

  3. Monthly

    Ongoing advisory

A retainer for a regular, experienced sounding board: market updates, strategy check ins and support on decisions as they come up.

  4. Ongoing

    Advisory board roles

Formal advisory or board positions with fuel companies, technology providers and new entrants that want deep industry experience at the table.

Independent by design. I am not employed by any fuel company, and I disclose any advisory roles up front, so you always know where my advice comes from.

Who I work with.

Different clients need different things from the same deep industry knowledge. Here is how I typically help each of them.

Fuel companies

Refiners, importers, wholesalers, distributors and retail networks, from majors to independents and new entrants, seeking an experienced independent view.

Investors and expert networks

Fund managers, investment banks, private equity and expert networks seeking informed context on listed fuel companies, deals and industry economics.

Suppliers and technology partners

Technology providers, logistics and equipment suppliers, and service partners who want to understand how fuel companies think and buy.

Industry, government and media

Conference organisers, industry bodies, policymakers and journalists who need a clear, credible voice on how the market works.

Fuel today. The energy transition next.

The same questions that shape the fuel industry today, including customer behaviour, network economics, pricing and regulation, will shape the energy transition. I follow it closely and help clients prepare for it.

  • EV charging

Where charging fits in a fuel network, how it is priced, and what it does to site economics.

  • Renewable and low carbon fuels

Supply, cost and demand for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel.

  • New energy retail

How the forecourt offer changes as the vehicle fleet changes.

Founder and principal, Kinetik Consulting Group.

I have worked at every link in the downstream chain. I started at BP on the supply and commercial pricing desks, learning how a barrel becomes a landed cost. At Viva Energy I led business intelligence and pricing, building the analytics behind pricing decisions for one of the country's largest fuel suppliers. At EG I ran fuel markets and pricing as General Manager, owning margin and performance across one of Australia's largest retail networks through price cycles, supply shocks and regulatory scrutiny. Along the way I built deep expertise in retail strategy, loyalty, network strategy and supply chain economics.

I have sat on the operator's side of the table: setting prices, owning the P&L, answering to boards and regulators, and living with the consequences of each decision. That is the lens I bring to every engagement. I start with the data, test it against how the market actually behaves, and give a clear recommendation rather than a menu of options.

Kinetik itself is not new. I first set it up to advise oil companies and investment banks, and I now run it full time, working with fuel companies, investors, suppliers and industry bodies who want an independent view from someone who knows the industry from the inside.
